USSG's commitment for Net Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions
USSG’s commitment for NetZero
In 2020, USSG joined PwC network firms in a commitment to achieve net zero
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030. Our net zero commitment is based
upon a science-based target initiative to reduce our emissions to a 50% absolute
reduction of our scope 1 and 2 emissions as well as a 50% absolute reduction in
scope 3 business travel greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 as compared to our
2019 levels.

Our approach
India being primarily a coal-based economy with more than 70% of electricity
being generated from coal based power plants, our conventional infrastructure
systems hence continue to rely heavily on such non-renewable sources
contributing to high carbon emissions.As a professional services business, our environmental impact is small compared
with many other industries. Yet, we intend to be a responsible user of these
resources to minimize our impact and contribute to the Net zero economy.
Our commitment to move towards a Net Zero economy by 2030 would need in
reducing our absolute emissions and offsetting the growing emissions due to our
growth in the next few years.Most of our operational impact will come from the carbon emissions generated by
business travel of our employees and the use of energy in our office buildings.
So, our carbon mitigation programme is central to our efforts to reduce usage on
these two operational fronts each year.

Our Commitment
We shall ensure that our resources travel ONLY when it is necessary and adopt
responsible travel practices. We shall place our own resources in most of our
critical travel locations to take care of our client interactions and reduce intercity
travel.We shall reduce air travel and encourage all local travel by EV vehicles to lower
carbon emissions.In all our offices as we shift from Work from Home to Work from Office mode we
shall encourage an Hybrid model so that we reduce travel and office energy
consumption.
We shall train all our resources to use electricity in our offices more responsibly,
shift from conventional lighting to LED lighting, increase dependence on natural
lighting and reduce usage of air conditioners.
Our Targets
We commit to achieve the following targets.
USSG will work in conjunction with one of its Principal partners PWC to support
our efforts to make a net zero future a reality. We shall take their advice and
guidance for a net zero transformation applying Science based targets.
Operations
USSG will strive to reduce its emissions in line with a 1.5-degree climate
scenario, including a 50% absolute reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions and a
50% absolute reduction in business travel emissions from a 2019 baseline by
2030.
Our decarbonization targets
Our near-term science-based targets are aligned with a 1.5 degree climate
scenario and have been validated by the SBTi. Our targets are to:
Reduce scope 1 and 2 absolute emissions by 50% from a FY19 base by FY30.
Reduce absolute business travel emissions by 50% from a FY19 base by FY30.
We will continue to offset those emissions we cannot eliminate today through
high-quality carbon credits.
